26 September Rainbow FM 90.7Fm launched its Annual Telethon today, this after a three year break. CEO Humphrey Birkenstock took the first call on air at 06h20 and by the afternoon the station is reputed to have received 60 calls 120 sms's and 10 over the counter contributions bringing the total to 190 in pledges collectively valued R 65 000. Rainbow FM 90.7 will continue with messages of faith healing and hope until the 7th October. The station has challenged its audience to raise R2 million over a two week period. Research has concluded that the radio station impacts its listenership with a bouquet of services that include free telephonic counselling. (5000 per month).
This Telethon comes in the wake of the station wanting to upgrade its infrastructure and improve on human resources in order to deliver high quality timeous relevant programs that will keep it on par with its competitors. Rev Tebogo Mulaudzi Chairperson of Rainbow Community Radio launched the project with a powerful word of encouragement as he shared from 1 Corinthians 9 v11. Other guest in the studio included Rev Sam Matjeke and Pastor Jerome Liberty.
This week we will hear the likes of Rev Ellias Ndeda, Pastor Chucks Ozabor Dr Veni Andrew and others. Project manager Mr Lionel Jean Michel is optimistic that the 2 million targets will be met.
